Welcome to Ilminster Rifle club

Ilminster small bore rifle club was formed in 1870 and is one of the oldest Home Office Approved Licensed clubs in the country. We have a forward-looking membership, with an eye to the advancement of each individual’s shooting abilities and in the club’s facilities.

We are are proud to be the first club in Somerset to modernise our range with electronic scoring systems.
The club has members who are experienced coaches and instructors, and several members are qualified range officers for both small-bore shooting and full-bore shooting disciplines.

Disciplines under development

3P Position

With the introduction of electronic scoring systems in 2021, we are now able to develop 3P Position. The kneeling, prone and standing positions  are all equally important when shooting a three position match. Each count for the same number of points and have specific guidelines for each position. In ISSF and NSRA 3P position matches, the first position is kneeling, followed by prone and then standing. 3P has become the  olympic format since 2016 at 50 meters. The Photograph above is one of our members, Katie Watford who came first in the Junior National Championships.

Air Pistol 10 meters

The 10 meter air pistol is an Olympic shooting event governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). It is similar to 10 meter air rifle in that it is shot with 4.5 mm (or .177) caliber air guns at a distance of 10 metres (11 yards), and that the match consists of a qualification round of 60 competition shots within 75 minutes. If an Electronic Scoring System (EST) is not available, 15 minutes are added to the time limit. Competitors are allowed to shoot an unlimited number of shots during the 15 minutes preparation and sighting time.
