Air Sporter
Ever wonder how Olympic Athletes get their start?
Sporter air rifle disciplines are entry-level target shooting events designed as an affordable and accessible introduction to competitive marksmanship.
- The Target: Competitors shoot at a standard 10-meter bullseye target.
- The Rules: Usually restricted to standard spring, pneumatic, or pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) sporter air rifles. These cannot be high-end, heavy Olympic match rifles.
- The Stance: Shooters generally fire from a standing position, making it excellent for developing balance and focus.
- Organizations: These are highly popular for youth leagues, such as the British Sporter League in the UK or the civilian marksmanship and scouting programs.
10 Meter Sport competitions such as the Scouts Cymru Air Rifle Championship class athlete with in each category according to their school year. All age categories are mixed gender and physical ability.
Athletes may shoot SPG (Springer) or PCP (Pre-Charged Pneumatic) air rifles. Athletes will be noted on the results as shooting a SPG or PCP and awards will be presented for the highest placed SPG in each class.

- Junior – School Year 6, 7 & 8
- Inter – School Year 9, 10
- Senior – School Year 11, 12 & 13
IDRPC are looking for junior members to form teams as well as to represent the club in open competitions such as the Scouts Cymru Scouts Air Rifle, The British Sporter league as well as the SSBSA Air Rifle leagues.
The club has recently completed 10 meterElectronic target NSRA configurations. The club currently has one ISSF compliant pneumatic .177 calibre Air Rifle which will be shared with Air Precision, however springer air rifles are permitted which are affordable. Any type of iron sight is permitted, however telescopic sight systems are prohibited.
The real benefits of Air Sport is that the competitor is not permitted to have any special clothing except perhaps a supporting glove. You can wear your ‘normal’ clothes and in fact the more comfortable the better. Air Sport is a natural progression to Air Precision. Our Air Coach began her journey in this way and became the National Junior Champion.

The Rifles
The above rifle is also used for Air Prescision. It is light and adjustable. The rifle on the right is a affordable ‘break barrel’ which is also permitted.
